The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross
Continuing the tradition of intimate Passion concerts in the districts of Gliwice, initiated last year in Ostropa, the string quartet of the Gliwice Chamber Orchestra invites you on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 6:00 PM to experience a unique work that is a musical contemplation of the “Seven Words” of the New Testament:
Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing (Luke 23:34)
Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise (Luke 23:43)
Woman, here is your son. Here is your mother. (John 19:26–27)
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34)
I thirst (John 19:28)
It is finished! (John 19:30)
Father, into your hands I commit my spirit (Luke 23:46).
This musical portrayal of these moving words, contained in the String Quartet Op. 51 by Joseph Haydn, “The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross,” will be performed by the string quartet of the Gliwice Chamber Orchestra, this time at the Church of the Savior of the Evangelical-Augsburg Parish at Jagiellońska Street 19A in Gliwice.
The GOK Quartet, together with a narrator, will perform in the following lineup:
Partyk Laburda – first violin
Waldemar Staniczek – second violin
Rafał Woźniak – viola
Karolina Waloszczyk – cello
Adam Żaak – narrator/host
The concert will take place as part of the “All Improvviso” Festival, and its organizers are the “WENA” Artistic Agency, the FUGA Cultural Society, and the Evangelical-Augsburg Parish in Gliwice. The project partner is the Victoria Cultural Centre in Gliwice.
Media patronage of the concert is provided by Radio Imperium and Radio Katowice.
The organizers plan to continue this artistic project in the coming years, always during Lent, in various churches and districts of Gliwice.
