A musical programme inspired by the folk-infused compositions of the Baroque master Georg Philipp Telemann and his admiration for folk music and its authentic performers. A three-month stay in the Upper Silesian town of Pszczyna, along with encounters with local folk musicians, influenced the brilliant German composer so profoundly that in his autobiography he later confessed this experience had a decisive impact on his artistic life and greatly enriched him musically.
Old Haná dances from a Leipzig tablature, svítáníčka — traditional dawn songs, playful love melodies from Moravian Wallachia, as well as dance tunes from Haná and the surroundings of Brno, create a musical portrait of an era in which folk music from an imagined rustic countryside existed in harmonious symbiosis with Baroque court music. The final wedding melodies bear witness to the exuberant celebrations in which, during the first half of the 18th century, the musician body and soul — Georg Philipp Telemann himself — most certainly took part.
