This fact is recognized both through their musical form and from their designation for the non-liturgical instrument mandora. The titles of the individual pieces refer to different ethnic groups and we might therefore think that they are a kind of reflection of the folk music of Europe at the time or, better still, perhaps a direct record of contemporary folk melodies. However, the likelihood of the authors&#8217; personal experience of such music is minimal.
